At Shepton Mallet Community Infants' School & Nursery we believe that every child is entitled to enjoy his or her childhood. They should be valued for their individuality, culture and heritage and be encouraged to develop their full potential in a stimulating and caring environment.
We are a small school of just over 200 children including our Nursery, and are situated in the market town of Shepton Mallet on the edge of the Mendip hills. Our facilities and resources cater exclusively for children aged from 0 - 7.
We have 5 classes, Reception to Year 2. This year all our classes are named after different Woodland animals. Our Nursery caters for children from birth to school age. It is open for 50 weeks a year, and our Nursery class for 3-5 yrs is open during termtime.
Our main building dates back to 1906 and houses classrooms for Reception to Year 2. it also contains our up to date ICT suite which has enough computers to teach a whole class. Our outdoor learning area is well resourced and stimulating.
We have a large colourful playground with a 'timber trail' and a range of play equipment for the children to use.
Our school garden, whilst small, does however have raised beds, for each class to plant flowers and vegetables. With the help of the children we are in the process of developing a small wildlife garden at the rear of the school as part of the outdoor learning area. Our local garden centre has generously donated bulbs and equipment to help us with this project.
Our newer building is where our Nursery and school hall are situated. We are extremely lucky to have such fantastic facilities for our youngest children. The Nursery has its own self-contained outside area where the children can play and learn safely.
